Hello! I am Sebastian Ahlman and this is my web site.
I live in Helsinki, Finland, where I work as a game programmer at
Bugbear Entertainment. I enjoy writing high quality software, both at work and during my spare time. I have a passion for computer games, and most of my projects are game-related. You can find
some of them here on sebastian-ahlman.fi. Feel free to download anything you find interesting. In addition to computer games I tinker with all sorts of cool technical things, like RC helicopters and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). I plan to write about these things too, when I get the time.
This website is a personal project of mine, and is in no way related to or endorsed by my employer. Any opinions or thoughts I share on these pages are solely my own.
I feel that many software developers nowadays concentrate too much on their favorite platforms, programming languages and APIs. I try to do the opposite by constantly trying out new technologies as I get the opportunity. Even though I mostly work on
Windows-based computers using the programming languages
C/C++,
C# and
VB6/VB.NET, I have also written applications for the mobile
Symbian S60 platform using
Symbian C++ and the
Apple Mac OSX platform using
Cocoa and
Objective-C. I also highly enjoy working with scripting languages such as
Lua.
In my game projects I have used both
Managed DirectX,
OpenGL ES 1.1 for mobile devices, and the very nice open source graphics rendering engine
OGRE as rendering APIs/engines. Other software I regularly use include
Visual Studio,
Eclipse,
SQL server,
Notepad++,
Milkshape 3D,
Carbide.c++,
GIMP,
Xcode and many more...
In May 2008 I gratuated from Arcada in Helsinki where I studied information technology for four years. My thesis, a client-server environment for mobile management of work shifts, is
available for download here. The thesis is written in Swedish, but it contains an abstract in English.
